Small Craft Sighting trace their roots back to the late 1980s and suburban Detroit, where bassist Joe Kirkland, guitarist Chris Nagarah, and drummer Courtney Cahill became friends and formed the group which would become Small Craft Sighting. As The Western Herald observes, "Years of playing together coupled with an enthusiasm for live shows has resulted in a high-energy act that delivers the full package to its audience. The band has the tunes, presence, dynamic, and entertainer's flair that makes for a great live music experience."
SCS plays modern rock, the kind that's personal and relevant, with catchy hooks that imbed themselves in your head and refuse to let go. Because the lads in SCS have been making music together for over nine years now, this relatively young group has racked up more onstage experience than a lot of seasoned veterans. The result is impressive: an emotional delivery of modern rock that www.listen.com describes as "upbeat indie rock committed to bashing rhythms and overdrive, with melodic, inspired vocals riding just above the crunch."
With a rapidly-growing fan base in college towns throughout the Midwest, Small Craft Sighting has returned to the metro-Detroit area with a renewed hope for what the future may hold. The intense SCS sound has been the result of a constant musical evolution over the past ten years, as friends with a passion for music have gradually become musicians deftly channeling the urge to play focused, driven, heartfelt music. A revealing glimpse of the group's energy and pop sensibility is captured on their latest CD, the simply-titled Small Craft Sighting
